Agghh, who invented winter? It definitely wasn't a cyclist. Worry not, there is a warm weather cycling option for every season. Check out our guide to the best spots in Europe for some sunny miles away from the crowds and traffic, an Endless Summer of cycling if you will. We pick our best locations and sportives by month with classic climbs, great local routes and most importantly, sunshine on your back.
January & February
We are sticking to Europe only so in Jan & Feb we go as far south as we can in the middle of winter to the island of Tenerife. Average temperatures are 20 degrees with 8 hours sunshine (London averages 5 degrees and apparently 1 hour of sunshine though that hasnt been proven for a few years). This is a 4.5 hour flight so worth making a week of it, and there is plenty of climbing to keep you going all week. The main draw is Mt Teide, a huge 45km climb starting from sea level capping out at 2,356m
Sunny Sportives: Granfondo di Tenerife - 21st Jan 2018
March & April
Into March & April and to one of our favourite places in the world to ride: Mallorca. The average temperature is 19 degrees with 10 hours daily sunshine. Being slightly closer to northern Europe, this can be either a long weekend or a week and there is so much variety, enough to be able to ride different routes every day for weeks. Choose between the quiet lanes on flat terrain to long climbs in the Tramuntana mountains. Bucket list climbs include Puig Major & Sa Calobra and the one day ride along the coast from Andratx to Port de Pollenca is one of the world's great routes.

Sunny Sportives: Mallorca 312 - 28th April 2018
Spring time in Emilia Romagna, Italy is a cycling paradise. This area is one of the food & cycling capitals of Italy giving you equal opportunity to burn and consume calories. Average temperatures of 21 degrees and 8 hours of sunshine a day also help. The main cycling miles is in the stunning hill country near San Marino and close to the borders of Tuscany but there are also some stunning ocean side rides. Off the bike, check out the Marco Pantani museum and then get stuck into the amazing coffee, food & local wine.
Sunny Sportives: Nove Colli - 20th May 2018
Before it gets too hot, we live riding in Provence, Southern France to take on the mighty Mont Ventoux. Average temperatures of 27 degrees and 11 hours of sunshine a day makes this a very consistent place for great weather riding. Tackle the mighty Ventoux from one of the three routes up or do all three in a day to join the Club des Cingles du Mont Ventoux but also make sure you have time to ride some of the great local routes including the Gorges de la Nesque & head into the Luberon.
Sunny Sportives: Dragon Ride (sometimes!) - 10th June
One of the great climbs in the world is the Stelvio and the window to ride this is pretty small, with the weather being good only from June to September and the Italian holiday makers in late July & August clogging up the roads with cars. Late June / early July is a great time to be here, average temperatures are 19 degrees with 9 hours of sunshine but it can be very hot (and occasionally quite cold). From the base in Bormio, you can take in the classic climbs of the Stelvio, Gavia, Bernina Pass & Mortirolo. Perfect for 4 days of unforgettable riding.
Ride With Us: Stelvio Weekender - 4th to 8th July
Flanders is not just for spring! As the package holiday crowds head south in Europe to fry by the pool, we love going the opposite way to the sunshine in Flanders where temperatures average a very nice 22 degrees. This a such an undiscovered summer cycling destination, take in the classic cycling routes over the Muur, Kwaremont, Paterberg and more and try a couple of new disciplines with a half day at a cyclocross centre and some time on the boards in the stunning Ghent velodrome.
Ride With Us: Lake Como Weekender - 8th to 12th August
22 degrees, stunning light with amazing views and some classic climbs, September in Lake Como is perfect. Start your day with a ferry ride across the lake and then take in some of the stunning climbs in the foothills of the Alps. The variety of routes take you into Switzerland, across rugged remote ridges, along the lake into Como or up the legendary climbs of the Ghisallo to the famous cyclists church and the brutal Muro di Sormano with gradients above 20%.
Sunny Sportives: Tre Valli Varesine - 1st & 2nd September
Heading back to Mallorca is a great option, but anywhere in the Mediterranean is good in October (Cyprus, Sardinia & Crete would all work). Our preference is for some culture and variety of rides in Sicily. This is a big island so you need to choose your spot. Etna is the main climb and from the south coast (check out the stunning Il Picciolo cycling hotel) you can hit this climb & stop for coffee in the town that the Godfather was filmed - it doesn't get any cooler than that. Just remember to take the cannoli.
Sunny Sportives: Granfondo Lombardia - 13th October
